Alternative Valentine Getaways

  • Published on

It’s that time of year when florists go into overdrive and romantics everywhere try and think of something new, or recreate the old, for their loved ones to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Alternative Valentine Getaways

If your partner (or secret love) likes to do something slightly different then why not try one of our more ‘out there’ Valentine getaways:

Cozying up together with British Winter glamping

Camping isn’t for everyone, especially in British February. That’s why we have luxury glamping! The Great Langdale, Cumbria, is a shining example of embracing the outdoors whilst maintaining a few creature comforts you would expect from a high end county hotel retreat.

Winner of the Great Outdoors accommodation of the year award 2014, this campsite at the head of a valley is a beautiful spot for winter walks. You can choose between double-glazed wooden camping pods, or Moroccan Style Yurts finished with fur rugs, wood burning stoves and fairy lights. All starting from only £35 per night!

Celebrate the Festa di San Valentino on the rooftop of the Duomo Milan

In true Italian style and independence, the Milanese don’t whole-heartedly celebrate valentines in the way that we do, however the city is not short on romantic venues, from the rooftop of the Duomo to Piazza San Fedele, a popular square with couples. The Milano Card says: “The Duomo, Milan’s Cathedral, is the most important gothic architectural work in all of Italy. From the rooftop terraces you can have a wonderful view of the city between the famous spires called the guglie”

Flights for a long weekend start from £202 per person and a night in the centre will set you back around £80 per night with a modest Airbnb stay.

Edinburgh city chocolate walking tour

Edinburgh is steeped in history and beautiful architecture to peak your interest throughout your stay. Take a relaxing stroll through the historical city centre with its independent shops and museums meandering between any of the 7 tantalizing. You can book through Expedia, they say: “Luxury dessert boudoirs, award-winning truffle shops and fancy chocolate and cupcake boutiques are scattered through the city center – any sweet tooth fanatic is spoiled for choice.”

Alternative Catalan Valentines with the Sant Jordi Festival

It may not be on valentine’s day, however this amorous equivalent will serve you well if you run out time to plan before the big day. Jodi Day or St Georges day is similar in the festivities as other areas of the world. And celebrate the life of Saint George, who saved the beautiful princess from the clutches of the Evil dragon. Now the festival celebrates love, literature and the arts.

St Jordi is the patron Saint of Catalan so the celebrations are for all! The streets are lined with lovers clutching books and ribbon-tied roses. As Sant Jordi is not a public holiday all of the shops and restaurants are open as normal. However, there is no mistaking the feeling that this is fiesta time.

Flights to Barcelona start from £115 per person and accommodation just a short walk from Las Ramblas starts from £66 per night for a modest Airbnb

Soak up the atmosphere of welsh rugby in Cardiff for the 6 nations

There is nothing the welsh love more than rugby; The 6 Nations, The World Cup or the provinces bashing each other in the valleys week-in, week-out. So if you want to soak up uncompromising love and passion (for a sport and not perhaps amorous lover) then Cardiff is the place to be this spring. Accommodation in the capital is competitive with a vibrant night life of bars and restaurants spilling into the streets with swathes of red and green flags and daffodil bonnets.

I was very impressed by the level of service.

They beat the competition by a country mile! Super happy and will most certainly be buying insurance with them again.
